In its continued efforts to pass measures that uplift the lives of Filipinos, the House of Representatives approved on Second Reading Wednesday, the proposed "Proper Installation and Maintenance of Overhead Electric Distribution and Communication Lines Act." House Bill 8202, principally authored by Rep. Geraldine Roman (1st District, Bataan), tasks electric distribution, cable, and telecommunications companies to safeguard life and property on the conduct and delivery of services to their clients. These companies are mandated to conduct periodic inspection of overheard electric distribution and communication lines, fix dangling overhead secondary and communication lines, as well as remove unused overhead lines, among other responsibilities. The House also approved on Second Reading HB 8249, which declares February 1 of every year as “National Hijab Day.” Principally authored by Rep. Amihilda Sangcopan (Party-list, AMIN), HB 8249 aims to promote an understanding of the Muslim tradition of wearing a hijab. Deputy Speaker Weslie Gatchalian presided over the session.
