Privilege Speech of Rep. Lani L. Cayetano
30 September 2019
Fellow Members of the House of Representatives,
our friends from the Secretariat,
Guests, ladies and gentlemen,
It is my privilege this afternoon to honor the unsung heroes of this august chamber.
My dear colleagues, we rely heavily on the support of the Secretariat, and all the employees and staff, who endeavour day to day to effectively and efficiently provide the necessary services to the House of Representatives. However with our numerous responsibilities, we sometimes overlook their importance and contributions.
For the very first time today, we shift the spotlight to our workforce, for without them we will not be able to fulfil our missions to the districts that we represent.
I believe that it is about time we get to know them better, and in the process, learn about their diverse needs at work and in life. By giving them the opportunity to tell their own stories, we, their elected leaders, are equally given the chance to appreciate them more. The insights to be gained will equip us in crafting an enhanced and responsive work-life balance program that will enable them to live well and to work well.
This is the reason behind the HRep Month: to address the well-being of the entire Secretariat family and the Congressional staff as they continue to serve with passion and commitment, in tandem with us, House Members.
So, to give us all a better understanding of this initiative, let us hear the stories directly from them. Let’s watch this...
