The House Special Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts chaired by Rep. Christopher De Venecia (4th District, Pangasinan) created a Technical Working Group on Thursday, to further deliberate on and harmonize House Bills 4692, 6476 and 8101. The three proposals seek to develop and promote the creative industries in the country, thus, providing for the establishment of a “Philippine Creative Industries Act.” De Venecia said there is no agency yet that has been put in-charge of the planning, direction-setting, and implementation of any effort to promote the Philippine creative industries. “The bill, together with other bills, seeks to address this by stimulating the Philippine Creative Industry in protecting, securing, promoting the rights of our scientists, inventors, artists and other gifted citizens over their creations as well as providing them formal and institutional support and assistance from the government,” said Rep. Victor Yap (2nd District, Tarlac), author of HB 4692. The TWG would be headed by Rep. Lianda Bolilia (4th District, Batangas). The committee hopes the bill would be passed on Third and Final Reading in the first quarter of 2021.
