The House Committee on Energy chaired by Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco, during its online meeting Wednesday, created a technical working group (TWG) to fine tune House Bill 4075. The bill seeks to create a national energy policy and regulatory framework for the use of electric vehicles (EVs), and the establishment of electric charging stations. The panel named Bataan Rep. Jose Enrique Garcia III (2nd District, Bataan) as TWG head. The proposed “Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations Act” also aims to establish an accreditation mechanism for all charging station service providers and mandates the creation of green routes exclusive to EVs. Velasco said the use of EVs is one way of helping the government in its goal of promoting clean and renewable resources and technologies. Bill author Rep. Joseph Sto. Niño Bernos of Abra explained the use of EVs would reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuel for the transportation sector.
