The House Committee on Trade and Industry chaired by Rep. Weslie Gatchalian (1st District, Valenzuela City) on Tuesday conducted its 4th hearing on 16 bills seeking to regulate parking fees and carpark operations in the country. Parking fees are currently imposed in malls, hotels and restaurants, schools and hospitals and other business establishments operating in the metropolis. Gatchalian said the various bills seek to balance the interests of the parking operators and the consuming public so they can arrive at a win-win parking rate that will give property owners fair return of their investments while charging consumers a fair fee. Atty. Mark San Juan of SM Prime Holdings, Atty. Marte Cordia of Ayala Malls, Johnathan Co and Marvin Jason both of Robinsons Land, and representatives of MegaWorld Corporation, Metro Parking, Laban Consumer Groups, Hataw Bikers, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Philippine National Police (PNP) were among the invited resource persons who attended the hearing.
