The House Committee on Dangerous Drugs chaired by Rep. Robert Ace Barbers (2nd District, Surigao del Norte) held its organizational meeting on Wednesday to discuss its plans and initiatives with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police in support of the anti-drug campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte. Lawmakers pushed to require public officials to undergo drug tests to ensure that they are not dependent on drugs and to restore public confidence in the government. Barbers asked PDEA officials to submit their agency's original budget to the Committee so that the panel can work on possibly raising it during the bicameral conference committee meetings on the 2020 budget. Among the House Members who posed their queries were Reps. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. (4th District, Cavite), Edgar Mary Sarmiento (1st District, Samar), Joseph Stephen Paduano (Party-list, ABANG LINGKOD), Narciso Bravo Jr. (1st District, Masbate), Alfredo Garbin Jr. (Party-list, AKO BICOL), Sergio Dagooc (Party-list, APEC), and Manuel Cabochan III (Party-list, MAGDALO).
