"So in lighting this Christmas tree, our prayers go out to the people of Mindanao. We stand with you and we will help na muling makatayo ang ating mga kababayan doon,” said Speaker Alan Peter "Compañero" Cayetano, as he led the symbolic lighting of the Congressional Spouses Foundation, Inc. (CSFI) giant Christmas tree located at the main lobby of the House of Representatives on Monday afternoon. The lighting formally launched the Giant Christmas Tree Fundraising Project of CSFI where House Members can buy angel ornaments, the proceeds of which will be given to non-organic House personnel assigned to grounds and maintenance, day care center, housekeeping, and security. In his message, Speaker Cayetano asked Congress, as a whole, to do extra sacrifices to help the victims of the earthquakes that hit Mindanao. The Speaker bared the fundraising initiatives of the House Members, as well as a proposal to have a Congress Rehabilitation Plan to allow the House to help in the rehabilitation of affected areas in Mindanao. Among those who joined the Speaker in lighting the giant Christmas tree were CSFI President and Chairperson Rep. Maria Laarni Cayetano (2nd District, Taguig City-Pateros), Majority Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte, and Deputy Speaker Rose Marie "Baby" Arenas.
