Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Teodoro Locsin on Wednesday thanked the House for its support to the agency, as the House Committee on Appropriations chaired by Rep. Isidro Ungab (3rd District, Davao City) tackled the agency's P22.65-billion budget for fiscal year 2020. The discussions were presided by Committee Vice Chair Rep. Manuel Sagarbarria (2nd District, Negros Oriental). Under the National Expenditure Program (NEP) for 2020, the DFA and its attached agencies shall receive appropriations amounting to P22.65 billion or 0.55 percent of the total national budget. Overall, the DFA shall receive the 16th highest allocations in the next fiscal year. The DFA further hoped for the support of Congress on the inclusion of the DFA's proposed special provisions to the 2020 General Appropriations Act to help the agency operate more efficiently. The agency also asked the panel for additional funding for Tier 2 projects amounting to P8.08 billion as well as the continuance of the provision of funds for six foreign service posts amounting to P699.38 million and four consular offices to be opened in 2019 with funding requirement of P69.05 million. The requests were received enthusiastically by Rep.
