The House Committee on Health, chaired by Rep. Angelina Tan M.D. (4th District, Quezon), approved on Wednesday five vital health bills during the panel's first hearing in the 18th Congress. These measures seek to: (1) provide Renal Replacement Therapy for patients with end stage renal disease, (2) rationalize the Department of Health bed capacity, (3) expand the coverage of the Mandatory Basic Immunization Program, (4) require government agencies to indicate the blood type of individuals in identification cards, and (5) establish the Overseas Filipino Workers Hospital (OFW Hospital). In the 17th Congress, these proposals were approved on third and final reading. Several measures were refiled this 18th Congress adopting these health proposals, and were approved by the health committee. The panel further passed 10 local bills addressing various concerns of several localities. Also present during the proceeding were Deputy Speakers Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. (2nd District, Camarines Sur), Ferdinand Hernandez (2nd District, South Cotabato) and Aurelio Gonzales Jr. (3rd District, Pampanga), as well as Committee Vice Chairmen Michael Defensor (Prty-list, ANAKALUSUGAN) and Elpidio Barzaga Jr. (4th District, Cavite).| Caption by Molie Gonzales/ Photos by Gilbert Engay/ News and Documentation Section-Press and Public Affairs Bureau/ House of Representatives of the Philippines
