In celebration of International Youth Day on Monday, August 12, 2019, Rep. Sarah Elago (Party-list, Kabataan) enjoined the Filipino youth to offer their time and talent in serving the country. She made the call in a privilege speech this week. Elago said the International Youth Day this year has a theme “Transforming Education”, aimed at giving focus on 1) all efforts, initiatives and reforms related to the education system and sector, and 2) the situation or status of the entire academic community. Colleagues of Elago at the House of Representatives gave their advanced greetings on her on the occasion of International Youth Day. Elago called on the youth in schools and communities to launch different activities which are relevant and important in the celebration of three important events this year, namely: 1) Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa; 2) International Year of Indigenous Languages; and 3) , and International Youth Day. She said the “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa” celebration this August has the theme “Wikang Katutubo Tungo sa Isang Bansang Pilipino.” Elago said the youth activities recognizing the importance of these events should be in accordance with the weekly themes set by the Commission on the Filipino Language (Komisyo sa Wikang Filipino), which are: First Week, “ Ako at ang Katutubong Wika ko”; Second Week, “ Pagbasa at Paglaya, Pagpapalusog ng mga Katututbong Panitikan at Kaalamang Bayan”; Third Week, “Sari Kultura, Multilingualismo at Pag-uugnayan Para sa Isang Bansang Filipino” and; Fourth Week, “Ang Pangangalaga sa mga Katutubong Wika, Pangagalaga sa Bansang Filipino.”/ Caption by Rowena B.
