Former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday said the present generation of Filipinos is fighting for another independence, which is the country's liberation from poverty. “Kaya kung ang henerasyon ng ating mga ninuno ay ipinaglaban ang kalayaan, ang ating henerasyon ay ipagpatuloy nating ipaglaban ang kalayaan sa kahirapan ng ating bansa,” Speaker Arroyo said in her speech during the celebration of the 121st Anniversary ofPhilippine Independence held at the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos City, Bulacan. Speaker Arroyo enjoined Filipinos to continue working for the country’s freedom and progress which will benefit their children and grand children. The Speaker was also awarded a Certificate of Recognition for giving importance to the sacrifices made by the country’s heroes for the sake of freedom, justice and democracy. The certificate recognizes the time and knowledge she shared as guest of honor during the event. With her during the occasion were Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, Vice Governor Daniel Fernando , Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad and Vice Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, Rep. Lorna Silverio (3rd District, Bulacan), National Historical Commission Representative Rosario Sapitan, Parish Priest of Nuestra Senora Del Carmen Reverend Fr. Dars Cabral, Police Regional Office 3 Director Chief Supt.
