Former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Rep. Florida Robes (Lone District, San Jose Del Monte City) presided the joint oversight meeting of the House Committees on Appropriations and Basic Education and Culture on Wednesday. The meeting was conducted to assess the budget performance of the Department of Education (DepEd). The DepEd reported sound budget performance for financial years 2016 to 2018. Last year, it posted a 95.17 percent obligation rate after obligating P470.711 billion of its P494.591 billion adjusted allotment. DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said the DepEd is grateful to Congress and Malacanang for extending the validity of the 2018 budget, allowing the agency to spend in 2019 its unutilized 2018 funds. Among the DepEd officials present in the hearing include Undersecretaries Nepomuceno Malaluan, Josephine Maribojoc, Diosdado San Antonio, Revsee Escobeda, and Tonisito Umali. / Caption by Czarina Engracia / Photos by Perfecto Camero / News and Documentation Section-Press and Public Affairs Bureau
