The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, chaired by Rep. Xavier Jesus Romualdo (Lone District, Camiguin), on Friday declared as legal the sale of Paskuhan Village in Pampanga by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) to SM Development Corporation (SMDC) under the TIEZA’s Asset Privatization Program. Senior Deputy Majority Leader Rodante Marcoleta (Party-list, Sagip) said that upon careful and judicious scrutiny by the committee of the issues surrounding the sale, the committee's position is that the transaction was legal. The committee’s inquiry on the Paskuhan Village sale was based on House Resolution No. 654 authored by Rep. Aurelio Gonzales, Jr. (3rd District, Pampanga), seeking to 1) ascertain the real ownership of the subject property amidst certain assertions to the contrary, 2) determine whether correct procurement procedures were followed, 3) determine whether the conditions imposed by its former owner Jesus Lazatin has legal effect, and 4) determine if these conditions were complied with or not. The committee also took cognizance of the referral of House Resolution 2317, principally authored by Rep. Juliette Uy (2nd District, Misamis Oriental), calling for an inquiry on the illegal entry and dumping of hazardous plastic garbage from South Korea in the Phividec Industrial Estate in Tagaloan, Misamis Oriental. | Joselito Menorca/ Gilbert Manalo
