FREE DIALYSIS FOR INDIGENTS

The House committee on health chaired by Rep. Angelina Tan, M.D. approved a substitute bill requiring government hospitals to provide free dialysis treatment to indigent patients. The bill mandates all national, regional, and provincial government hospitals to establish, operate, and maintain a dialysis service facility in their respective hospitals. It also seeks to put up affordable and accessible kidney transplant facilities across the country. The measure seeks to serve patients with little to no source of income. It also recognizes the “catastrophic” financial drain caused by fighting kidney diseases. With Tan in photo are Reps. Estrellita Suansing and Federico Sandoval III. | CMBE/GM
