WOMEN POLITICAL LEADERS GLOBAL SUMMIT 2017

House Deputy Speaker and Bulacan Fourth District Rep. Linabelle Ruth Villarica assured women political leaders from around the world that the Philippines continues to promote gender equality, and has in fact scored well in international gender equality measures and indices. Villarica underscored this during her opening statement at the Women Political Leaders (WPL) Annual Global Summit 2017, Session on “Women, Business and the Law ” held recently at the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavik, Iceland. The Philippine delegation was headed by committee on inter-parliamentary relations chairperson Rep. Rose Marie Arenas (3rd District, Pangasinan). Iceland President Guõni Th. Jóhannesson and First Lady Eliza Reid hosted a welcome reception for the Philippine delegation composed of 14 lady legislators. Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, Acting Speaker of Althingi, hosted lunch for Villarica and Arenas. Meanwhile, with Villarica at the summit stage are Birna Einarsdottir, CEO of Islandsbanki; Chiara Corazza, Director General of Women's Forum for the Economy and Society; and Augusto Lopez-Claros, Director of the World Bank's Global Indicators Group.
