House tackles tax reform

03 April 2017 04:33:08 PM

The House committee on ways and means chaired by Rep. Dakila Carlo Cua (Lone District, Quirino) approved the creation of a technical working group (TWG) that will draft the substitute bill to House Bills 4774 and 4688 authored by Cua and Rep. Joey Salceda (2nd District, Albay), respectively, or the proposed "Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act." Minority Leader Danilo Suarez moved for the creation of the TWG after the committee conducted seven hearings on the measures. The bills aim to create a tax system that is simpler, fairer and more efficient, characterized by low rates and a broad base that promote investment, job creation, and poverty reduction. Finance officials led by Undersecretary Karl Chua and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Deputy Commissioner Jesus Clint Aranas, and Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy Taguiwalo were among the guests present during the hearing.
