20 March 2017 05:32:59 PM

The fourth highest-ranking official in the country was warmly received by the people of Oriental Mindoro. At dawn of March 17, 2017, Speaker Pantaleon D. Alvarez and 12 other House Members were welcomed by the fathers of the province, specifically Rep. Reynaldo Umali (2nd District), Rep. Doy Leachon (1st District), Governor Alfonso Umali and other local government officials. The visit of the delegation is dubbed as “the First House of Representatives Western and Eastern Nautical Highway Expedition”--with Calapan, Oriental Mindoro as the first point of entry via Batangas port. According to Committee on Transportation Chairman Rep. Cesar Sarmiento (Lone District, Catanduanes), the 10-day inspection tour is expected to give legislators first-hand perspectives on the state of the Roll On-Roll Off (RORO) projects of the government, the conditions of road network and the transportation system in the provinces. “As the 2018 budget season is fast-approaching, we want to determine if there are potential and existing infrastructure and tourism projects which need funding support from the national government”, Sarmiento explained. Other Members who joined the caravan are Deputy Speaker Raneo Abu (2nd District, Batangas), Deputy Speaker Ferdinand Hernandez (2nd District, South Cotabato), Majority Floor Leader Rodolfo Fariñas (1st District, Ilocos Norte), Deputy Majority Floor Leader Juan Pablo “Rimpy” Bondoc (4th District, Pampanga), Public Works Committee Chairman Rep.
