Born Ace S. Barbers on May 31, 1969 in Manila, Philippines. He is the second of the four siblings by ROBERT ZABALA BARBERS and VIRGINIA FLORES SMITH.
Ace as he is fondly called, successfully ventured into several business endeavors with his friends after college. He was engaged in importation business, cargo movement/logistics, and in agri/aquaculture in the countryside. After years of gaining experience in the private sector, He decided to enter politics to follow the footsteps of his father. He ran as congressman and won in the district his father once served in the province of Surigao del Norte in the north eastern part of the island of Mindanao. He served as member for three (3) consecutive terms of the Philippine House of Representatives during the 11th, 12th and 13th congresses. As member of the Philippine congress, he was elected as chairman of several committees’, such as committee on economic affairs, committee on accounts and committee on dangerous drugs. He was one of the young elected representatives of the 11th congress who played a crucial role in the ESTRADA impeachment for alleged corruption and violation of the constitution. His advocacies and principled stand on several national issues together with his equally young colleagues did not go unnoticed, the media coined a name for their group and called them THE SPICE BOYS’.
He is currently a member the 17th and 18th congresses of the House of Representatives and chairs the COMMITTEE ON DANGEROUS DRUGS.
